Judge Awards Six Death Sentences To Chunian Child Rapist And Murderer

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has awarded six death penalties on three counts to convicted criminal Sohail Shehazad for sexually abusing four young boys in Chunian.

The ATC finally sentenced a child rapist and murderer to not just a life sentence but six death penalties upon conviction. The Anti-Terrorism Court’s decision was made by Judge Muhammad Iqbal who announced the verdict after recording the statement of the accused under section 342.

The Sohail Shehzad case began last year in Chunian city of district Kasur in Punjab.

According to the police, four children around the age of 8 and 12 went missing in June 2019. A case was registered under special provisions of terrorism. Upon investigation, the remains of the minors were recovered and evidence pointed to Sohail Shehzad for murdering and raping the four children.

ATC Judge Muhammad Iqbal has handed two life imprisonment terms to Sohail, six death penalties on three counts in two cases. He also ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs. 2 million in addition to the Rs. 400,000 compensation to the victims’ families.

It remains to be seen if the punishment for his heinous crime is carried out and more criminals such as Sohail are brought forward to face justice.
